Since Noah and his ark were the only ones able to get around in Christchurch yesterday, I spent the day marathoning Deadwood Season 2. Was that wise, you say? No, but it was entertaining.
I've been hankerin' to see the second season and it's finally available, so who am I to resist. Plus, I don't have the luxury of HBO down here, so it's been a long wait! To those of you with Tivo, I'm jealous!
Once you get passed all the swearing, and by crikey, there is a lot of that, you realize just how well-written a show Deadwood is. There's something so gritty about this show and it's definately not a romanticized version of the West that we see so often.
Now, I can't say that I agree that everyone in the Old West suffered from turrets or spoke in a round about way so as to spend 20 minutes getting to the point, but the characters and plot are so engaging, that once you start, you can't turn it off, espcially if you've seen the first season.
My only real beef with the second season was the death of little William Bullock. Was that necessary, really? Anyone have any comments on this?
Favorite new character quirk: Al finding solace in conversation with the Indian Chief's head in the box. A twisted version of Wilson from Castaway, but so much more engaging.
Okay, brief post as I've got get back to the real world, and that includeds kayaking into work; but I leave you with a few of my favorite quotes from the first season.
(Note: if you want to see some of the more colorful quotes from the show, Google it; I'd like to keep things as clean as possible, and there aren't a lot of clean quotes to post. Tee-hee.)
Jack McCall: Should we shake hands or something, relieve the atmosphere? I mean how stupid do you think I am?
Wild Bill Hickok: I don't know. I just met you.
Seth Bullock: There's a blood stain on your floor.
Al Swearengen: Yeah, I'm... I'm gonna get to that.

Noah lives near you?
